We had some friends help come and put up our Christmas tree in the classroom and read us some Christmas books!

On Tuesday Dr. Jean came to SAE to sing with us! We really enjoyed it!

Here we are making a paper bag book with our Christmas wish list inside.

Mrs. Abraham put a transparency of indian symbols on the overhead projector and we got to choose symbols to draw and words to write on our drum cover.

Thursday we made a bracelet that has different color beads to represent elements of the First Thanksgiving.

White- the sails on the Mayflower

Blue- the ocean

Green- the Pilgrims saw land

Black- the first year was very hard

Brown- the turkey the Pilgrims and Indians ate at the Firsty Thanksgiving

Red- cranberries they ate

yellow- corn they ate

orange- pumpkin or sweet potato pie

Thursday afternoon we made our noodle necklaces. We will wear them at our pow-wow tomorrow, and it also helps us improve our fine motor skills. Stringing noodles on a piece of yarn takes concentration and practice!

Thanksgiving Feast & Pow Wow

Indian Naming Ceremony: The students each got an Indian name and a special necklace and name tag. The students loved being called their Indian name during the day!

Here you see the drumming lesson. The drums were so much fun- but before we could play, Mrs. Abraham told us about how the Indians used drums to make music, and how they used the drums in special ceremonies.

After the drumming lesson we had our feast where we enjoyed ham, turkey, popcorn, corn, deer jerkey, sweet potato pie, and pumpkin pie.

There were lots of parents and grandparents that joined in and were a HUGE help to Mrs. Abraham and Mrs. Moran!

Once the feast was over, we drummed through the hallways!

Monday, November 8

Mrs. Dawson came and read "There Was an Old Who Swallowed a Pie".

Then we used the old lady vest and to retell the story!
